The Morecambe game saw us reach the first checkpoint with an average gate of 1741. Peter guessed 1749. Up until the Morecambe game it was a close run thing and it looked like our own webmaster, Matthew Wright, would take the spoils with his guess of 1731. A slightly higher than average crowd for the Morecambe game, however, increased the average from 1721 to 1741 meaning that Matt was pipped at the post!
Good luck to all the entrants as we head towards the second checkpoint.

23/1/06 - SDS Goal-O-Meter Update
The SDS Goal-O-Meter page has been updated - many thanks to the new sponsors joining us, see here for details. So far we have raised over £500, so many thanks for all your support. Don't forget that if you are a sponsor and you haven't already paid your half-season sponsorship, this is now due so please pay as soon as possible to allow us to give Town a much-needed post-Christmas financial boost - every little helps!
23/1/06 - Hereford United Beer Trail and travel details
Because of the revised sale date for the next issue of the fanzine, the nominated pub for the trip to Hereford did not appear in SDS61 and will take place before SDS62 is released! Full Beer Trail, travel details and the usual information from Brian, which would normally appear in the fanzine, can be found below.
Brian’s Beer Trail - 11/2/06 - Hereford United - The Barrels, 69 St Owen Street, HR1 2JQ
Back to ciders capital city to avenge our defeat in the FA Trophy. Hereford is a nice place to visit, even if you keep out of the pubs, with many interesting buildings and shops. Edgar Street is approximately 15 minutes from the station, turn right from the approach into Commercial Road, right again into Blue School Street, right into Widemarsh Street, left into Blackfriars Street and the ground is on the right.
Again we visit my favourite Hereford pub, The Barrels, 69 St Owen Street. This is the Wye Valley brewery tap, selling up to four of their own beers plus three guests and proper cider. From Commercial Road, cross into Union Street, follow road round to the left where it becomes St Owens Street. The pub is along on the left. For the ground, retrace steps to Commercial Road then as above. Meet from midday.
GETTING THERE
BY CAR
Whatever direction you come from, just head into the town centre and follow the A49 signs for Leominster into Edgar Street. There is a large pay and display car park behind the ground. Details from www.herefordunited.co.uk

From London: CDR £34.10
From Halifax: Saver(!) £52.90
ADMISSION DETAILS
£10 adults and £6 concessions for an appalling view from the Edgar Street Stand lower terrace. A couple of extra quid gets a much better view from the Edgar Street Stand upper level. You wouldn’t wish the quality of the food on sale on your worst enemy, best grab a pie in the town before the game.
17/1/06 - SDS 62 - Revised sale and copy deadline dates
SDS62 is now scheduled to go on sale February 18th when Town play Grays at the Shay. Non time sensitive articles can be sent in at any time. The deadline for non-booked articles is February 5th. Pre-booked articles can be sent up to and including February 9th. All contributions gratefully received, contributors must allow us to publish articles under their own name. As we didn't cover Hereford in 'Away with the Shaymen' in SDS61, full details will shortly be added to the Beer Trail on this site.
17/1/06 - Numbers needed for Altrincham pre-match get together
Anyone interested in joining us for the pre-match get together before the Altrincham game is asked to confirm at the earliest opportunity. This is primarily so that we can organise the appropriate transport from the pub to the ground. As a reminder, below are the details published in SDS61.
Advance notice of a fantastic offer to SDS members from Christopher Lister of the Bradford Inn, Miles Platting. When Town play at Altrincham on Tuesday 21st February Christopher has offered to put on some pre-match food and also organise a mini-bus to and from Moss Lane. A limited number of beds for the night will also be available. This would be a fantastic opportunity for the more northern based SDS members, in particular, of which there are quite a few in the North-West area, to get together. Miles Platting is a 5-10 minute black cab ride from both Victoria and Piccadilly stations and buses 76, 77 and 215 from Oxford Street go past the pub. The beverages available in the Bradford Inn include hand pulled Joseph Holts bitter, Diamond lagers, Guinness and Strongbow all on draught. As you will probably appreciate, we ideally need numbers in advance so that the appropriate arrangements can be made in advance. Please contact us at one of the SDS addresses at the earliest opportunity if you are interested or want further information.
30/12/05 - SDS PAPARAZZI - Will you be next?
It's taken a while to get them up on the website, but our roving photographers were snap-happy during the away day at Woking in October. Although we haven't taken any photos since, this is going to become a (semi-)regular feature on the website so if you fancy yourself as a bit of a snapper and want to share your photos - Town-related only please! - with the SDS and the website readers then post or email them to the usual addresses.
See the photos here.
12/6/05 - MEMBERSHIP/SUBSCRIPTION NEWS
Members and subscribers should have received Issue 58 of the fanzine, which was published last week. Amongst other things, details of the membership and subscription schemes for 2005-06 were unveiled. As part of a rethink on our branding (which we hope will be received far better than that of the Football League this time last year!) we are now advertising ourselves as Shaymen Down South - A Halifax Town Supporters Club, and are opening up membership to everyone, including those people living in Calderdale previously excluded. [We would like to point out that this subtle name change is in no way a challenge to the existing Supporters' Club, of which many SDS members are also a part, and which we actively encourage followers of Halifax Town to join regardless of where they live!]
Along with membership (which is still excellent value at the same £8 for individuals, £10 for family/group and £14 for overseas members that it has been for years) we hope to provide several other benefits - the first of which is the chance to enter our competition to win £200, see the fundraising page for details - but if you do not want to join officially there is an option for just subscription to the fanzine.
Memberships will run from 1st July 2005 to 30th June 2006, and along with subscriptions will cover 6 issues of the fanzine. We would very much appreciate if those wishing to join or renew would do so during the close season - it makes the administration for our editor and treasurer a lot easier! Many thanks to everyone who has been a member or has bought our fanzine during 2004-05 and we hope to receive your support again next season.
25/5/05 - FANZINE UPDATE
Downloadable online issues of all our previous fanzines, from 16 (the first newsletter available to non-members) to 56, published in January, are now available on the SDS archive page. Issue 57 (Feb-Mar 2005) is still available by mail order, but will be added to the website soon.
Issue 58 is due out in early June. It will be posted out to all members, along with renewal forms for membership for the 2005-06 season and details of our new competition. Membership forms will also be available by post and for download on this website. However if you are not a member and would like to get a copy of the new fanzine, you can get one by mail order (£1.30 including P&P) from the usual SDS contact address.
4/5/05 - SDS GOAL-O-METER
Payments for the SDS Goal-O-Meter are now due. Those of you who haven't yet paid should have received a letter telling you how much is owed. Many, many thanks to those that took part - a list of all participants can be seen here. We'll let you know how much money we raised for Halifax Town as soon as we've collected it!
We will of course be running this highly-successful scheme again next season, please continue to support us. Further details will be printed in the next issue of the fanzine.
25/4/05 - CLOSE SEASON SDS ACTIVITY
The close season edition of the SDS fanzine, issue 58, is due for publication in June. It will be mailed out to all SDS members and subscribers. Anyone who usually buys their fanzines at matches can still get hold of a copy by post, for £1.30 including P&P (or £1 if you include a stamped self-addressed envelope). Please write to the usual SDS contact address.
14/3/05 - YORK MATCH LIVE IN LONDON
Apologies for the late update to this website, but anyone unable to make it to Halifax for tonight's game who will be in or around London is invited, along with several SDS members already confirmed, to The Old Doctor Butler's Head, 2 Masons Avenue, London, EC2V 5BT, where the York City London & South Supporters Club have arranged for the match on Sky to be shown live on a big screen. The pub is within walking distance of Bank (exit 1), St. Paul's and Moorgate tube stations. There are several real ales available and the evening is sure to be good fun, although let's hope the Shaymen leave the happier of the bunch!
17/2/04 - SUPPORTERS CLUB CONFERENCE DASH
As you may be aware, four members of Halifax Town Supporters Club are attempting to travel to each of the 22 Conference grounds in 24 hours, starting after the home match with Hereford Utd on 16th April and returning at 6pm the following day.
The brave volunteers need all the support they can get, and all proceeds will be going to Halifax Town. You can help if you know a company or person willing to sponsor the intrepid travellers, or you can enter a competition. All you have to do is guess the total time taken for the round trip, and the total mileage travelled, and the nearest guesses will win prizes. Currently confirmed prizes include:
A weekend's luxury car hire
2005-06 Halifax Town season ticket
£150 holiday voucher
MP3 player
DVD player
Please support their effort by entering the competition. Further information and contact details can be found on the Official Halifax Town website.
